BACS Compliance

BACS (Building Automation and Control Systems) Compliance is a mandate under the EPBD requiring non-residential buildings to install automated systems to optimize energy efficiency. To comply, buildings must meet the EN ISO 52120-1 Class B standard, which requires automatic energy monitoring, intelligent control of building systems (like HVAC and lighting), inefficiency detection, and interoperability.

Timeline in Belgium:

December 31, 2025: Deadline for buildings with HVAC systems > 290 kW
December 31, 2029: Deadline extended to smaller buildings with HVAC systems > 70 kW.

EPC NR

EPC NR (Energy Performance Certificate for Non-Residential Buildings) is a legally required certificate that demonstrates the energy efficiency of your commercial or public building. Valid for 5 years and prepared by a certified Type D energy expert, it assigns your building an energy label (G to A) calculated primarily by the percentage of renewable energy in your total consumption.

Timeline in Belgium:

January 1, 2025: EPC NR is mandatory for buildings ≥ 1,000 m².
January 1, 2026: EPC NR becomes mandatory for all non-residential buildings.
January 1, 2030: Buildings must reach a minimum Label E (at least 5% renewable energy).
January 1, 2035: Buildings must reach a minimum Label D (at least 10% renewable energy).
January 1, 2040: Buildings must reach a minimum Label C (at least 25% renewable energy).
January 1, 2050: Buildings must be Carbon-neutral (100% renewable energy).

ISO 50001 Energy Management

ISO 50001 is an international standard for Energy Management Systems (EnMS) that requires organizations to systematically improve their energy performance. Certification is increasingly demanded by governments and large suppliers.
